Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay to star in Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

Rapper-turned-actress Awkwafina and child star Jacob Tremblay are in talks to join the cast of Disney's live action adaptation of "The Little Mermaid".
Critically acclaimed drama Room and Wonder star, Jacob Tremblay, is set to voice Flounder, mermaid Ariel’s best pal. Jason Marin voiced him in the 1989 original. 
Awkwafina is set to play seagull Scuttle who helps mermaid Ariel which was voiced by Buddy Hackett before. Awkwafina is well known for her role in Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians in 2018 and is going to star in Jumanji: The Next Level alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan.
Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall from a script written by David Magee with music from the original film, coupled with new music from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Rob Marshall has previously directed Mary Poppins Returns.
It was announced that Melissa McCarthy was in talks to play Ursula, the mermaid Ariel’s nemesis, in the movie.
It is yet to announce about who is set to play the titular character of Ariel, as well as Prince Eric, Sebastian the crab, and King Triton amongst others.
1989 animated classic,The Little Mermaid, was about a mermaid named Ariel who yearns to be human after she falls in love with a prince. Ariel makes a deal with Ursula, who grants her wish but takes her voice.
The film is expected to move into production early next year (2020).
