A female centric John Wick spinoff film titled “Ballerina” which is in the works at Lionsgate, has now officially hired a director, Len Wiseman. Wiseman has directed 2012 “Total Recall” remake and 2007 “Live Free or Die Hard.” His directing credits also include “Underworld,” and “Underworld: Evolution”, which featured Kate Beckinsale as a supernatural assassin.
No other official news about the casting has been released, but it is rumoured that the female lead for Ballerina did have a part in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, although for a very short time. In Parabellum, Unity Phelan, an actual ballerina, was credited as the “Ballerina,” but given her lack of background in acting, I doubt she will be the lead role for this movie. The film may focus on one of The Director's ballet students previously seen in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum.
Screenplay of the film “Ballerina” is penned by John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum screenwriter, Shay Hatten. The film will be about a young woman who is trained as both a ballerina and an assasin seeking revenge on the people who killed her family. Keanu Reeves will be serving as executive producer of the film with producers, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Chad Stahelski.
As of now, Ballerina doesn't have a release date.
