A prequel to the Antoine Fuqua-directed 2001 crime thriller ‘Training Day’ is in development at Warner Bros. Warner Bros has hired Black List scribe Nick Yarborough to write the ‘Training Day’ prequel, which will be set a decade before the 2001 original that was written by David Ayer.

The film will center around nearly 10 years  younger Alonzo Harris, who was played by Denzel Washington in the original. Reportedly, the film will be set around the time of the L.A. Riots which was followed after the infamous Rodney King verdict.
The original film took place over a 12-hour period which starred Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke as detectives. Denzel Washington portrayal of Alonzo Harris, the off-the-books narcotics detective earned him the Best Actor Academy Award in 2002 and his co-star Ethan Hawke also earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his performance as officer Jake Hoyt, a rookie Los Angeles narcotics officer taken warily under Alonzo’s wing. The film went on to gross more than $100 million worldwide against a $45 million budget.

No director is attached to the project as it is still in its early stages. No other cast or crew members are attached to the film so far.
