Dexter Fletcher, the director of the Elton John biopic ‘Rocketman’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, has now been hired to direct the third installment of the 'Sherlock Holmes' movie franchise starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.
Guy Ritchie had directed the first two installments; 2009's Sherlock Holmes and 2011's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, but for the third installment of Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes franchise, Dexter Fletcher will be taking over Ritchie as a director.
Robert Downey Jr. will reprise the role of Sherlock Holmes, and Jude Law will be portraying Holmes’ partner Dr. John Watson.
Before, the Iron Man star, Downey Jr. had commitment to play Iron Man in MCU movies, therefore preventing the Sherlock Holmes franchise to film. It took, therefore, many years for fans to get the sequel for Sherlock Holmes film.
Screenplay will be done by Chris Brancato who is known for his work in shows like Narcos and Hannibal.
The long awaited sequel had a release date of December 21, 2020 but now is pushed to December 21, 2021 for theatrical release.
