It’s official! Avengers: Endgame has beaten James Cameron's Avatar to become the highest grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced this feat of defeating Avatar in box office at San-Diego comic-con 2019. 
Avatar, which was released in Dec 2009, held the record of being the highest grossing film of all time for almost a decade. The film had earned $2.787 billion at the box office. But now Avengers: Endgame has overtook Avatar as worldwide box office champion with $2.790 billion. Also, for the record Avengers: Endgame is still playing in theaters.
Director of Endgame and three other films in MCU including Avengers: Infinity War, the Russo brothers tweeted to confirm the news, "To the greatest fans in the universe, from the bottom of our hearts ... thank you.”

Alan Horn, Disney co-chairman and chief creative officer, said in a statement thanking the fans and still praising for the Avatar,

Now, everyone is looking forward to Avatar2 to take the top spot again when it gets released on December 17th, 2021. James Cameron have to bounce back really hard with Avatar2 to reclaim it’s no.1 spot at the box office.
